Deep Thoughts By Elly

Yesterday in church Elly comes and sits on my lap.
"Mom, I've been thinking."
"Okay about what"
"What do stores do at night when all the people are sleeping?"
"Well they lock their doors and turn off the lights."
"But what about their beds, don't they have beds."
"No, stores don't need beds."
She quietly contemplated this only to reask the same questions moments later.
Luckily the sacrament came and she forgot all about it.

Cookies With Santa

The twins got to go to work with daddy and have cookies with Santa. I dressed them in their Christmas dresses and sent them off. The last time they went to work with Shay was about a year and a half ago. Jane asked Shay about two weeks ago when they could go back to work with him, the conversations was as follows:

Jane: Daddy when can we go to work with you again?
Shay: I don't know, soon.
Jane: We want to go, and this time you don't have to show your bottom.
Shay: What?
Jane: Last time we went to work with you, you burnt the popcorn in the mircrowave and when you went to fan it, your jacket came up in the back and we saw your bottom.

Shay does remember this event, all except the bottom showing. I guess we all remember things a little differently. But we sure had a good laugh at this one.

The girls were so excited to see Santa. Jane even thought this might be the real one, Elly said it couldn't be because his beard was too short. I told her even Santa has to trim his beard every now and then. "Oh, then it could be the real one. We saw the fake one at church, his beard could come off." They both asked for bikes. Very fun.

Skylers Holiday Concert

This is Skylers first year in band. He wasn't really excited to do it, but willing. Which would pretty much sum Skyler up with anything that isn't video games or books. I really tried to get him to play the drums but he wouldn't have it. So the trombone it is. I made him practice like crazy the week they were out of school for Thanksgiving because his concert was the following tuesday. He didn't complain too bad and ended up doing a really great job. He even wore his suit and bow tie. Looking sharp Skyler boy!

Thanksgiving Pies

We had a rather enjoyable Thanksgiving this year. Being 8 months pregnant, I really didn't want to do much and thankfully we were invited to two different friends houses. The first being the Andersons. These are some of the best people around. I had both of their girls as beehives in Young Women and they are very talented and grounded girls. They also have two boys 8 and 5 I believe. So they have a breakfast tradition, where everyone brings a couple of homemade pies and everyone shares pie for breakfast. I love this tradition, because you are always too full for the pie after a big meal, so why not have it first! There were so many pies, I would say close to 20. Each one of them awesome in their own right. I made a fresh strawberry pie and a chocolate brownie pie with hot fudge drizzled on top. They were great, but so were the other 8 pies I tried. (small servings of course, so everyone could try lots of kinds) I think this is one worth keeping. Then we played games and the kids played outside despite the chilly weather. Most of the kids even played in the creek in their backyard, without us knowing of course. Skyler even dared to cross a log that broke and soaked him to his underarms, or so he says. I just figured he was telling the truth because who would do that on purpose, when it is so stinkin cold out. Shay even attempted their fun swing they had made. You climb up on top of a 10ft latter and jump off to swing. I was a little glad I was pregnant so I was not asked to attempt it, I am a little afraid of heights.
We then went over to our friends the Urbanawizs and enjoyed a wonderful meal and lots of relaxing while the kids destroyed their house. I felt a little guilty, but came back the next day to try and rectify some of the disaster we left behind. But actually felt that I made it worse, with the wicked green that I had convinced them to paint their bathroom just days before their fourth baby arrived. Thankfully they are very forgiving people. We are so blessed to have such wonderful friends. Thanks alot guys. You made my day.

Watch out Hanna Montana, Here comes TURKEY TANNA

Kaely had a Thanksgiving turkey project that we had put off until Sunday, due Monday. I really haven't been feeling great and didn't want to help, so I asked Shay to help her. Big mistake, Shay has many wonderful talents, but crafting is not one of them. He gave her a bag of pez candies and said "glue these on." Bad idea, the glue started to disolve the sugar in the candy and they about melted, it was gooey and slimy. I had to come up with a way to cover up the disaster. Before we knew it...Turkey Tanna was born. My inspiration, the skull patch on her vest. Kaely jumped on board and it was alot of fun. I had forgotten how much I love to create. It was really fun and I loved it. I just hope I let Kaely help enough! A few things to mention...her red toenails, her blingin' necklace with the T T (for Turkey Tanna of course)on it, her sunglasses with the Xtra bling, and her super sweet guitar! I really wanted to make her a guitar, but no one thought it would turn out good. Well I LOVE the guitar and I think it really adds to her style. Turkey Tanna just gives us one more thing to be thankful for this holiday season, what do you have to be thankful for?

Okee-Dokee Okeefenokee

My 10 year high school reunion was a couple of weeks ago. The small town where I went did a four year reunion, graduating classes of 96-99. I had 83 people in my graduating class. So they combined four years so there would actually be people to see. It was good taking the kids to see where I grew up. It hasn't changed much in 11 years. The biggest draw for me was the Okeefenokee Festival was the same weekend, otherwise I wouldn't have gone. But I had been wanting to take the fam down for that sometime so we did. We actually went to the beach the day before and the kids loved it. I wanted to look for sharks teeth (we used to find them all the time growing up) but the tide was up and that made it impossible. On Sat. we went to the parade in folkston for the festival and my favorite part was still the band. The kids got tons of candy and Shay was in awe at the floats (most of which were just people driving their dumpy cars in the parade). He didn't get it and I thought it was super funny, because thats just how they roll in S. Georgia. I should have taken pictures. Then the girls rode the pony and we got some gator on a stick, Elly kept saying "mmm that gator sure is good, lets get some more". Then we went to the swamp. We saw a few gators but not many and ran out of time so we didn't get to take the boat ride to see more. Then we went to the reunion and had dinner, it was good to see a couple of people and I won the award for the most kids, with our 5th on the way. The highlight of the trip would be Shay getting in trouble by the lady we stayed with for using a teflon pan she had because if you scratch it, it will kill you and she called Shay a theif for using it! Very weird. We left shortly after that. But overall I think the kids had a good time and I had enough of S. Georgia to last another 10 years.

For the love of General Conference

As much as I love to look forward to General Conference, I am so glad it is over. My brother, his wife their baby (17m), My sister, her two boys, 14 and 5, and my dad came for conference weekend. I am way too pregnant to be hosting family and not so pregnant that I should feel this way. My grumpies took over a couple of times. And I think they could see relief in my eyes when they left. It isn't that I don't love them, I do, but I am hormonal and I really like my house clean. When you have a house this size and that many people it makes it really tough. Then you have conference stresses, where I want to listen but everyone else wants to talk or have lunch or talk about having lunch. I think the truth is I am way too anal and should plan on not listening and just buying the cds later. I would probably be much happier then. But really it wasn't as bad as I make it sound, the kids were overall good and it was nice to send the men off to priesthood and send the kids to bed and watch a girl movie, we also went to yard sales without kids and I got to sleep in my own bed. I also beat them all in Settlers both times we played, they just don't have a chance. So as you see, you just can't win with a pregnant woman, and that is all I can say about that.

Viva La Mexico

So we are back. It was amazing and beautiful. The kids are all alive with the worst being Janes scraped knee. There is so much to tell that I almost want to break it up into days. Just wanted to give you a couple of pics and then I will go into details later. Shay didn't want to leave, and I was ready to see the kids. So the timing for me was perfect. Theres not alot you can do five months pregnant. We made lots of good memories and got a couple of good sayings out of the trip, like shay overheard a lady saying "I shouldn't have been bi-polar", or the men in the mercado saying "come into my shop, everything almost free", or "today for you, 99% off", this is while there price for one little silver bracelet is 70$. It was a joke and we did laugh alot at there expense. Sorry guys. One thing I love is when you ask them where something is, they say one block, so you walk one block and can't find it, the next guy says "oh one block". When finding the bus stop back to the hotel that happened for about 20 blocks in the 90 degree sun. But the best part is most of the time Shay was saying, "How can you do this being pregnant, I am dying." That made me just want to do better for longer, and maybe that was his plan. Our favorite part of the trip was Xcaret. It was amazing and wonderful. It was Disney Land for nature enthusiasts. We spent the whole day from 9 am to 9pm at this place. It was great! Except when the bat freaked me out in the underground river and I screamed "Bat!!!" and the swimmer guys came to save me. I told Shay I didn't realize I was such a whimp. I have always thought of myself as being tough. But that scared me. So pretty much, we had a wonderful time, made it through without incident and Shay said he can't wait till our next trip in ten years.

Exhaustion and a well earned trip

So the last two weeks I have way overdone it. I am totally exhausted and overwhelmed. Tired to say the least. But on monday Shay and I fly out for Cancun Mexico, and it couldn't come at a better time. We are celebrating our 10 year wedding anniversary. I am going to miss the kids terribly and kind of already do. But I will Not miss....Laundry, dirty bathrooms, dishes, whining, making meals, babysitting, homework and many other tasks that I can't even think of I am so tired.

Well we just couldn't resist

After all the debate and nonsense on whether to find out or not what we are having, I finally decided, why not? I just think we need to prep the twins, get things all together and be ready when this little one decides the time is right. I asked Skyler last week if he wanted to go, since it is our last, its their last chance to experience it with a sibling and he told me he didn't want to be there when they take the baby out. I told him they wouldn't take it out, just put a little thingy on my belly and we could see the baby on the screen, so he agreed. I said, sometimes they tell you bad news at these, like if something is wrong. I also said they might tell us it is a girl and I don't want any tears. He said, "I can't promise you that mom". So Monday, Shay, Skyler, Kaely and I went to the ultrasound. As my luck would have it, I got food poisoning (mild) the night before and only got 3 hours of sleep thanks to vomiting and the other form of vomiting. So I didn't feel so great.
On the way Skyler asked Shay what he thought it was gonna be. Shay said "a girl". Skyler cheered "YAY". Shay said I don't understand I thought you wanted a brother. Skyler said "well dad I guess you don't read moms blog" Shay said "what do you mean?" Skyler said "On it mom says you are always wrong." We all laughed.
When the time came it was all the sweeter when the tech asked if anyone could tell what it was. Everyone was super quite, Especially Shay and Skyler, I said it looks like a boy to me. And she said, YEP ITS A BOY! Once again Shay is wrong and I smiled and cried one little tear of happiness, I get another boy. We are so excited. I truly feel spoiled. I feel like I have been blessed with everything my heart desires. So Hurray...its a boy!

A New Day or the First Day of School

Normally I would take a picture of the kids and walk them into their classes on the first day of school, but today they were in a crazy excited mood. I guess the summer has been bad enough that they are completely stoked for school. They woke up Xtra early running around acting like banshees. I finally asked them to feed themselves so I could sleep an extra 10 mins. I got up and asked Skyler to make sandwiches because I had already made lunches but not sandwiches, so he grabs the fork I got out and throws it behind him, "who needs forks" he said. Then he makes the sandwich only to start eating it. "MOM, I absent mindedly started eating my sandwich" and he didn't want to make another one so he has a big bite taken out of his sandwich before lunch even starts. Kaely is running around singing randomness that I tried to ignore and the twins didn't want to get in the car because they wanted to watch Hello Kitty. Then we get them to school plenty early (7:20-school starts @ 7:50) and they jump out without saying good bye the twins are devastated and cry all the way out of the parking lot. I finally apeased them by offers of Lucky Duck games and Hello Kitty. We are home, the twins are occupied and my little 2nd and 4th graders are off to another year. I think its gonna be a good one.

No Birthday Martyrs for me, Thank You

Well as I was so grumpy on the its my birthday, and ill cry if I want to blog, I need to give an update. Shay refused to let me be a Martyr on my bday, which was Tuesday, not Sunday. I woke up to cereal and candy bars, flowers and kitchen canisiters. He had gone to the store early and gotten stuff. Which was WAY more than I had expected, so I thought I was done. Well I used the candy to bribe the kids all day to clean my house, which is in bad shape considering, I have been sick with morning sickness for the last 2.5 months and a virus + Super nasty sinus infection/headache for the last week. And fit into that moving the kids into different rooms and rearranging the entire upstairs. Every time the kids complained I reminded them it was my birthday and if they were gonna be mean to me on my birthday, I could return the favor on theirs. They would quickly change there tune and we got alot done. So Shay told me to have everyones shoes on by 4:30-5 when he would be home. He had asked a wonderful sister in the ward if she would watch the kids so he could take me out to dinner. I asked him where the money is coming from and he said don't ask it is just taken care of. So I didn't ask but enjoyed a wonderful date with my husband, we haven't been on a date in over 3 months because I have been so sick. It was great. Then we went to target and got some maternity shirts on clearance and some shoes and shirts for the kids back to school clothes which had been stressing me a bit. My dad came over and made a cake for me and we played settlers for the rest of the evening. It was great. So all I can say is, Shay, your the greatest. The only problem is his birthday is on Saturday and I didn't plan anything thinking we weren't doing anything for mine...guess I got some work to do.

Its My Birthday, and I'll Cry if I Want to

So it is my birthday, I guess the main thing I would cry about would be the loss in enthusiasim. Growing up I could not believe adults weren't as excited about there birthdays as kids were. Up until this year I have been just as excited about my birthday as I ever have been. I guess alot of adults are sad about there age, that life has gone by and they haven't done what they wanted to accomplish by then. But for me it is more lack of funds, lack of energy. July is tough on our wallets, we have Skylers, Mine, and Shays bday, as well as having to register both of our cars. So usually we opt to give to Skyler and register our cars, rather than buy us special gifts. I guess usually we have extra to do both, but I have been so sick with being pregnant we have spent more than we should on eating out. So that has cost us, with a family of six, big bucks. Just so you know, I am not sad about being twenty-nine. I think it is great. I think 4.5 kids and a ten year marriage by 29 is a huge accomplishment. I guess rather than being sad, I can rejoice at being alive, getting to make decisions that aren't always pretty or fun, but the grown up thing to do. I guess I should be gratful for all the good things I already have and know that I am at least going to get lots of homemade cards that say I am the best mommy around and happy birthday. So good bye tears, hello happiness!

Skylers Turning 9

Wow, we can hardly believe our little boy is turning nine. It seems like he just started kindergarten and he is already a fourth grader. We love having Skyler in our home. He is super silly and sometimes that makes me crazy, but most of the time it is great. He loves to read, but won't read it if he thinks I picked it out the book for him, so I have to convince him that he wanted the book and after he reads it and loves it, then I tell him I picked it out. I think he is slowly starting to trust the books I pick. He is a great big brother and will help his sisters with breakfast and other things. He is really hoping the baby is a boy so that he doesn't have to grow up the only boy with 4 sisters. He is in Talented And Gifted program at school and says its his favorite class. (Which is funny to me, considering he wanted to quit because of all the extra work) His favorite book is Eldest (second book in Eragon series) He reads at a seventh /eighth grade level and has great reading comprehension. Last year in his class he had well over a hundred or two AR points while his friends had 3 or 4. He let them pick whatever they wanted from the AR store. He also bought Kaely two really big toys from there with the rest of his points. He is very caring and hates to see bugs or anything for that matter hurt. He has Shays queasiness when it comes to blood. When I tell him he is a wonderful son, he always replies "and your a wonderful momma." We love Skyler...Happy Birthday Son!

The Fourth of July Fiasco

Okay so we went to see my little brother Joseph in Biloxi, MS for the fourth. My family, my sister and her 2 boys, my dad and my little bro Franklin. We drove the 6.5 hours on Thursday and arrived at the most ghetto of rundown motels (Joseph had gotten the place for us), it smelt like a mixture of mildew/mold and cigarettes, we tried to get another room but most smelt the same and the were farther away. They never cleaned before we were there or while we were there (we were there for 3 nights), my dad found someones reading glasses in his sheets, confirming our suspision that the sheets had never been changed from the last people, Skylers sheet had toothpaste on it, and the girls had something resembling milk on thier covers, don't ask. And those were the highlights. I of course, having morning sickness, threw up every night but one. We were going to go the the buffet at the casino, after waiting in line for over an hour I started to get a migrane, and was really sick from not eating, we found out that instead of 10$ for adults like my brother had told us, it was 25 for adults and 11$ for kids. I told Shay I didn't want to pay that much just to have to leave because of my migrane and nausea, so we left. Skyler was so mad...."Couldn't you have factored in the price before we waited in line for an hour". While I thought his comment was witty, I wasn't in a laughing mood. While leaving the casino and all 5 kids with us were screaming because they wanted the buffet, we saw an ice cream shop. With 2 people in line I said lets just get them ice cream for dinner, an hour later (only one lady was working in mega slow motion) we got their ice creams, only as soon as shay paid the twins started screaming at the top of their lungs that they hated there ice creams and wanted different ones. NO WAY! I grabbed them and carried them off, after finally getting in the car, I had to throw up, so Shay pulled over and let me puke my stomach acids. Any way, I guess memories were made, good and bad, its just for me they were mostly bad. The only good part, was Shay was so good at taking care of me and making sure I was okay. We are now home and don't expect to be going anywhere soon. Hurray for the fourth!

To know or not to know...That is the question?

So Shay and I have been debating, do we find out if we are having a boy or girl, or do we wait for that beautiful surprise? We were going to just let it be a surprise when we were having number 3 but when 3 turned into 4 we figured we had better find out. So Shay was excited when we found out it was one baby and said lets let it be a surprise. So I agreed. But I have been having second thoughts. We are going to be doing lots of rearranging and the prep work, I guess I could make two quilts. It would be really fun to not know. But It would be alot easier to just know and have everything ready. I really think it is a boy, I am not sure if that is just my hope or not? The Chinese calendar says it will be a girl. I don't know what to do, I am losing my mind debating with myself the pros and cons. What do you think? Should we find out or just let it be a surprise? This is our last kid so its our last chance? I don't know what to do. HELP!

Happy Fathers Day

Okay, I don't think I have ever given shay full credit until now. He is awesome, and I do not use that term lightly. I am truly awed. I have been sooo sick, depressed, sick, constipated, useless during this pregnancy and shay has been pulling all the weight. I pretty much do as much as a 12 year old babysitter would do during the day. Keep the kids from dying or killing each other, which involves someone dying, so it counts as doing one thing. I feel so sick that they pretty much have the run of the mill. The house is a, well lets just say disaster is going easy on it. Shay works all day, comes home makes dinner (I know this is sick, I am just trying to stay alive), cleans up, plays with the kids, puts them to bed, makes sure I am still alive and then crashes. Most mornings he brings me breakfast before I get out of bed so I won't be as sick in the morning. So as bad as this makes me look, I know it is bad. Shay is absolutely amazing. Now you can see how awesome he is, thats what I am talking about. After 10 years of marriage, today I love him more than ever. We are really luckly to have this man in our family. We Love you Daddy!

So the Verdict is in.....

I know only 7 voted but I figured it wasn't fair to make all the others wait. Well after much anxiety and waiting in the waiting room for an extra half hour, Shay and I thought we would lose our minds and then they called our name. So......the Lord blesses those he loves, and He blessed us with triplets, Shay was right. Just Kidding, Shay is never right, and the Lord only gives you what you can handle so he only sent us ONE. Hooray. I was so relieved and with the stress of that over, I have actually felt a little better yesterday and today. One baby, I can hardly believe it. What a relief. So thanks to all those who said my sanity couldn't take mulitples again you deserve a candy bar, and for all those who said twins... may you one day be blessed with multiples so you will understand.

Taking a vote

So of course we are pregnant and so we want to know what you think. We are taking a vote to see who gets it right. Tommorrow is the ultrasound and we should know then. I want to wait until 10 people vote until I post the answer so get people voting. When you have multiples once you have greater chances (abt 50%) that you will have multiples again. (or so Ive been told) I have been sick enough for two, and have asked to Lord never to make me do this again, so however many he wants me to have they should be in there this time. Shay thinks its triplets, I always said I wanted 7. So leave your Comment and make your vote......is it 1, 2, or 3 babies for the Hopes. What do you think?

Baby, oh Baby!

Okay so if anyone has been wondering where I am, well I have been really sick. Yes, that is right we are pregnant! I am about 8 weeks and feeling like crap. We have our first ultrasound on monday and should know if we are having one or three. Shay seems to think it is gonna be triplets. So stay posted. Just FYI being pregnant = misery, at least for me anyway.

Daddy Daughter Dance

The ward put on a Daddy Daughter Dance tonight and shay took all the girls. They were so excited to dress up and go on a date with daddy. They got coursages, got to dance, eat dessert and kaely won the raffle for a sparkle hat. They were all smiles and stories when they got home. It seemed like a wonderful memory. Skyler and I painted, talked and played pokemon on gamecube. We had lots of fun as well.

Worst week

I have had a not so fun week. On Monday, Shay bailed on me early to go deep sea fishing on a bussiness trip. That night all the kids got sick and vomited most of the night. I was up until 2, then up multiple times between then and 8. At least they all got to stay home so I didn't have to focus and get anyone to school in the midst of the vomiting. One time I got up Jane had beat me to help Elly and when I came in She was holding the puke bowl. I had one of those proud "I must have done something" right moments. I thought that was a really nice gesture at 3:30am. Skyler didn't vomit but had to change his pants 8 times throughout the night and day. He broke a bowl I had painted for Shay last year for our anniversary. And pooped his pants. I wondered if he broke the bowl because he pooped his pants or pooped his pants because he broke the bowl? I guess I should stop wondering and ask.... He pooped them because he dropped it. The crash scared him he said. I know that was just the beginning of the week but it kind of continued like that. It is Saturday. Mothers Day is tommorrow and in light of the past week, am not expecting too much. HAPPY MOTHERS DAY ALL YOU MOMMAS! May the good days out number the bad.

More DC pics

We had the most beautiful weather while in DC. We had picnics everyday and walked and enjoyed our time. I had planned really well and bought ponchos and umbrellas and the day it actually rained I had left them in the hotel. I guess that is murphys law for you. I kept telling Shay that it was making memories. I don't think he bought that. Lucky for us Skyler got some free paper to read and we used it as an umbrella to keep most of the rain off us.
This was our picnic in the mall. You can see the Washington monument behind Skyler, in the trees.

This is on of our picnics, the twins acting silly like usual.

We all loved the carousel ride.

We found a wishing fountain. It was in a beautiful garden area. Elly is making her wish. I hope it came true. It looks like she thought pretty hard about it.

We stopped and bought a slushy and shared it, except Skyler had to get an ice cream. Thanks to Grandpa Clark they all had a little spending money. He gave them the change we found at his place to use. They loved being able to pick what they bought without my say so. Even though I couldn't let go 100%.

Spring Break

Spring Break In DC.
I told Kaely that this baby elephant looked just like her when she was a baby. That is why she is making that face.
A butterfly landed on my hand and I was giving it to Skyler. This is at the Smithsonian Zoo.
My cute Elly pie.
This is in front of the old post office. Statue of Benjamin Franklin.

We had an awesome spring break. I hadn't planned on doing anything but Shay had a business trip to DC and I had never been there. The room and gas was paid for and it was spring break so we did it. There was an amazing breakfast every morning in the hotel and we would wait until the museums opened and head out. I had all 4 kids and Shay was worried I would lose them in the crowds, so we put lanyards on each side of the stroller and tethered the big kids to it. I would let them out every now and then when I could but Skyler would get distracted and almost left behind. He said don't let me out I know I am gonna get lost. They were all such good sports. By the fourth day of pushing a double stroller over 5 miles a day my back was killing me. I would have lost some weight if I didn't eat so much at breakfast. We took a picnic everyday and would sit and eat when we were hungry. I loved walking everywhere and asked Skyler if he would want to move there so we could walk everywhere and he said no way. I think that is something that really apeals to me. We visited lots of museums but I think riding the Carousel and eating ice cream was my favorite part. I would have more pics but my battery died on the 2nd day.
